Post pictures as you go.  We'd love to see the project step-by-step.  I did this for my first few projects and saw things in the photos I hadn't noticed while weaving.  It can be a useful tool.

One of my first scarves was using 8/2 tencel.  The project is on Weavolution here: http://www.weavolution.com/node/2685

I used three different tencel yarns, one was variegated.

Happy weaving!

Hi Susan and other group members.

My name is Eileen Rickard and I live in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, I have recently purchased a Woolhouse Tools Gertrude loom, 45" weaving width.  She is new to me although I am her third owner, Gertie came to me via BC then New Brunswick.  I am a member of the Lake Ainslie Weavers and Craft Guild and am familiar with jack and counter balance looms.  Gertie is my first   encounter with a countermarch, I have a warp on and will try the tie up soon.  I went for something really easy, so I don't have to worry about the weaving, just the loom.  I have on a woolen throw and will weave a mixture of plain and twill using a skeleton tie-up that I got of the internet  for eight treadles (the loom came with 10).  i hope this is the start of a "Great Big Adventure".

Best wishes, Eileen.

I'm not currently in the SCA, but I've been considering it for a few years now.  I live in an area that is part of Northshield.

I'm a little on the shy side so I think that's what has been holding me back from joining as I don't know anyone else that is part of the local Barony.

It would be nice to join a group where some people are actually weaving though (the local guild doesn't appeal to me at all).

I'm looking forward to getting additional information from this group though.

I second the motion to warp front to back - but I warp that way 90% of the time. Hopefully you have one cross still  on the far end of your warp chain. You can use that one for easy sleying. Just wind carefully when it is time to beam your warp on - make sure there are no tangles in front of the reed and that the threads are moving smoothly through the heddles . Wind on a small amount - then stop and check for tangles.  I think you can be successful and get the warp you want going front to back. Good luck!

Laura,

I'd love to know more about basket weave selvedges. Do you have a resource handy that would give me the lesson that I need?

Thank you,

Avery
