I just finished threading a Saori loom with a beautiful silk warp that Karen at Treenway Silks wound.  I haven't worked with silk before and it is so gorgeous.  I love the sheen of it and the colours are FAB!

This warp is going down to our market tomorrow on a Saori loom for people to try out weaving for the International Year of Natural Fibres.  Karen, myself and the Salt Spring Weavers Guild are partnering to do a display of many types of natural fibres  and let people try out some weaving.  We are hoping to raise some money for Keep the Fleece so that someone in need can get a couple of fleece bearing animals plus some training on how to care for them.

I'll try and get some photos to share.

Happy Weaving,

Terri

Do you have a picture available?  I'm curious what kind of counterbalance loom you may have.  That might help me point you in the direction of ressources.

If we can figure out the make of your loom, you may be able to find information about it at The Loom Manual Library . . . .You can find out more about The Loom Manual Library at www.weaversfriend.com/page1/page1.html

Hi Syne,

Thankyou for all the hard work you do for us to produce Weavezine, it is wonderful.  I also think your podcasts are wonderful. What a great idea to have a weaving one that I can listen to while weaving - so convienient.

I to would be interested in an article on tartan as I hope in the next year or so to weave our family tartan for a cape.

Hi Everyone I also wanted to add a question to my last post, but it said it was too long so here is the rest of it. I am asking wherever I happen to be with other weavers, so my apologies if you see this more than once. I am looking for a 100% polyester yarn about the size of 20/2 or 40/2 silk, something around 36 or more WPI. I have tried quite a few US shops, but to no avail. I know it is available. Does anyone have any idea where I might buy it? It is a bit difficult when we all want and use natural fibres, but I need the poly for shaped shibori, as the poly when steamed will keep its shape. Thanks for any information, and thanks again for all you do for us, Syne

Hi Everyone, I have just finished a wonderful weeklong w'shop with Catharine Ellis, she was great. I really fell in love with the shaped shibori. Hi Everyone, I'm also from Australia.  I found the Saori site by mistake as I was surfing the net and was immediately taken with the whole idea.  I am considering ordering a loom as they look so easy to use.  When we moved to Australia from Canada 20 years ago I sold my Leclerc loom and I have never been able to replace it with anything I like from here.   How much do you like your looms?  Is it worth purchasing one?  The only other looms that I can afford over here are the Ashford looms.  I have been making do with a salish loom I made and a 80cm rigid heddle loom but I am really missing having a "proper" loom with foot peddles.

I did get hold of Saori in Japan and they have given me a quote to mail one to me here.  It seemed like a fairly decent price.
