I wanted to weave a pattern using the yellow yarn which is weighted separately off the back of the rh loom. The samples I wove taught me this would not be possible because the supplemental warp was too similar to the rest of the warp. I should have purchased 10/2 or 20/2 yarn to create patterns over the brown stripes on the side of each placemat. As it happened, I wove the yellow in with the brown and it's predominantly yellow on one side and brown on the other. I tried several options on the samples including cutting the warp floats before wet finishing but they didn't look very good.
I'm okay with the result because they look better than my previous placemats. I will definitely weave new placemats in the near future. I just need to figure out which yarn to use and what structure to weave. It was fun but a bit tedious with 2 heddles (hence the sett of 20) on the rh loom but you have to try it at least once. The 8/2 unmercerized cotton was a good choice. It washes and dries in the dryer very nicely.
