I recently had fun with a slightly different fringe as described in Finishing Touches for the Handweaver by Virginia West.  The scarf is woven in 20/2 silk, and this finishing touch was just the thing for it.

That looks great! What is your favorite way to hold the scarf stable so you can space your knots evenly?

I don't do anything particular special for that - the scarf is just bundled in my lap.  If I find I have any problems getting the spacing about right, I used a tapestry needle to move the knot around before it's tight - a jewelers trick.  The spacing is just eye-balled.
