I've read that rhubarb leaves can be used as mordant. has anyone tried this? and do you know is it possible to dry the leaves and use them later, or can they only be used fresh.

thank you so much for posting this - I'm sorry it took so long to acknowledge. I've not been on site as regularly as usual as I've been "recovering" from handing in my PhD (a.k.a. "Das Elefant") and am only now pulling myself together (grin). I'll have a look at this. I'm excited to try it (especially now that I've planted a rhubarb - he he he). I figure if I can have a ready source of mordant I'd rather it come from my garden - make pies, dye some linen, and enjoy the day - grin.
