Just bought a loom! I placed this under projects because this IS a project! It needs to be restored.I bought it yesterday for $100.No pictures yet (I cannot find my darn camera!).
It needs new heddles, two treaddles are missing, a new reed, and new cables/ropes etc. I want to keep as much of the original parts as possible and try to keep with the original assemblage. I am not so sure about how this is together now. It seems to have been mish-mashed together with whatever was available to make it work. I need to do some research on this particular loom. I know it was maunfactured between 1890 and 1930 so it is between 122 and 82 years old. ANYTHING could have been changed on it in that time to keep it going... especially when times were tough, and we all know that times have been tough often in the last 100 years here in America and abroad.
Any information or history would be appreciated. I am going to look for makrings, numbers, insignias, castings numbers etc., on the parts as I disassemble it so that maybe I can determine the year is was manufactured. I want to name "her" too. I am excited to begin restoring her... but the real excitement will be once I have her warped and begin weaving. Yes. That is going to be when the angels sing :)
