Notes

Since I had Rit dyed the 100% Rayon yarn last week, it was time to make something with it. During the ending of Trop.Storm Debby I planned the project, pulled off the warp and then loaded the loom. Since this was going to be "a little something" - wife and I could use a couple of [ washable] utility placemats for the table that boiled peanut juice would not ruin. The large neutral cone is the rayon (thanks again gailc) and the small white cone is Crochet Cotton size #20. I wanted to keep dominate stripes so I thought weft yarn smaller than warp. I did some sampling with different treadling and decided plain weave worked best for the main area - 1 & 3, 2 & 4 - and I used a 1/3 twill on the end borders. This rayon was a 2 ply with one larger and one small fiber. The finish was also slightly fuzzy and had a close wavy rippled look and had a  slight irridesent shine. Toward the end of the weave I was starting to encounter the fuzz on the warp wanting to "stick together" and I would sometimes have to treadle multiple times to get the warp to separate and not lift shafts that we not being treadled. I just did a zigzag stitch to finish the ends leaving less than a quarter inch fringe.
