I have been asked to create some Metis Sashes for a group of First Nation elementary school children. I am looking for some patterns that could be done on a four harness loom. I know the original sashes were finger woven but that isn't an option! As I live in BC I am not really familiar with the sashes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. These children have a drumming group and I am donating the sashes. Thanks Judith

Hi Judith, you can just weave a warp emphasis twill with bright colours - red, green, white, yellow, dark blue.  The sashes were usually woven with wool.  There was one weaver who did the GCW tests who wove sashes - if you have access to the cd the guild did you can see her work for an idea of what they would look like.

cheers,

Laura

Thanks for that info Laura. I belong to the GCW and I should have thought they would have some info DUH! The children are from an inner city school and really proud of their drumming group. They are grade 1 to 7. I'll try and post a picture when we get the sashes done. Regards Judith
