If I don't watch out, here's yet another weaving technique I would like to try...  This is stupendous!

Notes

I had this sample from a class I took on designing for the Jaquard loom in Montreal a couple summers ago. I wanted to make something out of it instead of just keeping it in a roll to look at occasionally. The fabric looked like upholstery to me and asked to be made into a bag of some sort. The design was created out of my initials… S W H. (you’ll need to find it sideways…) I have a big trip coming up and wanted a zippered bog for the flight to hold my smaller purse and my iPad, magazines, etc., etc., etc. Several years ago I was given a zippered bag when I went to a conference so I used this and one my daughter made as inspiration and to measure size and handle placement . The Jacquard fabric was sewn to the black ultra suede upholstery fabric left over from some reupholstered cushions I made last winter. For the lining I was able to get some coordinating slipcover/drapery fabric on sale at JoAnns along with the D rings for the handles. It went together pretty easily until I came to attaching the lining to the bag. Double stitching around the outside top edge caught the lining for the most part and I hand sewed the corners. It’s exactly what I wanted and will serve me well for carrying my things to work after my trip! Earlier note...

This the first sample woven, a repeating image with shapes, from the design I created using the Pointcarré program.  It was created during a workshop I took with Louise Bérabé Lemieux at the Montreal Center for Contemporary Textiles.  If you look carefully you can see the initials of my name - SWH - that I used as the foundation for the design.
