I went through my first lb. of silk and was gathering my 2 new cones - and noticed that the new cones were much whiter than the orginal cone I used. So i did a sample with the medium magenta to test the substrates to see if there is a difference. I'm posting the picture large on my site so you can see it clearly. Do you think there's much of a difference in the dyed yarn?

I was able to finish the assignment with the darker silk. And will do the rest of the class with the lighter silk.

Mary, I didn't see much of a difference but that could be my tired yes.  You've got the best perspective with the original yarn right in front of you.

Planning on being at class tomorrow.  My daughter probably has pneumonia now and is staying with us.  She is one sick puppy...

You'll have to wrap them, including the substrate.  If you can get a different Munsell notation for the two substrates it will help with the difference in the dyed colors.  You will have the first row seat for seeing; we have to see thru' cameras and monitors.  I suspect for subtle differences like this  you have to see them in person.
