Nice to see you continue in the tartan theme. Are you using the same yarn this time or something different. I like the subdued colors. Keep up the documentation as well. Thanks for sharing.

dwass, no - this time I am using bamboo rayon. Evidently my camera does not show the colors correctly, no way they are subdued. The blue and red are shiny bright like the shine on Pearl cotton. This pattern is more difficult and has caused me problems. I had to pull almost half back off the warp beam and start over. I should be able to finish since I have worked on eliminating some distractions and "time vampires".

stunning when it is done - are you making another kilt?

endorph, it is for a fellow group member of St.Andrews Society who wants fabric so her little grandsons can have kilts sewn for them.

out beautifully. What lucky little boys

I am trying to find tartan scraps/mill ends. The size doesn't matter as long as the sett can be determined. Let me know if you have any to sell.

Do you need the scraps, what about a book with the setts of many tartans?

You can get these online -  Scottish Register of Tartans.  Once you get to the site you can search the tartan names A-Z or you can register and make a request for the sett and thread counts and it will be sent to you by email.

End product looks very good. Sorry about the distractions and problems, but I think that just goes with the program. If we didn't have these little snags and setbacks, it would probably just be "work". Congratulations on completing this project and I'm eagerly looking forward to the next one. I plan to get my tartan on the loom this winter if I can get a break from the tablet-weaving I'm doing.

Notes

Starting another tartan weave. A friend asked for some 'least expensive' Clan Ross tartan for 3 very young grandsons to have their mother sew them together each a kilt.  These first three photos are some of the drudge work that I know most all of us do but no one really seems to post pictures of it. I have 4 more spools to transfer to the warp beam after supper and tomorrow looks like I will be working on heddle threading and reed sleying - a little over 800 ends.

May10, finally got some weave going and have managed to get about 2 yards completed.

May 17, Finished.  This has been an aggravation and after talking with a few longtime and one master weaver this past weekend I now know not to use all bamboo on a project like this. The yarn is slippery and does not even hold a weave lock until you change sheds. Honestly I did not warp it on the loom as well as I should have. I had several crossed and twisted yarns in different sections on the warp beam - so as we all know we learn from our mistakes.
