Today I have again uploaded a new WIF ‘n Proof version.   You may download the new manual here   It includes some revisions to the designing tutorial and I have added a Troubleshooting section as well as notes for Android usersI will be emailing all registered users notifying them of the new version and attaching a copy of the new manual, so if you are a registered user, you will be receiving it automatically.  To get the new version, just start WIF ‘n Proof on your mobile device while connected to the Internet.  Not all of these new features are in the Demo version, so if you are evaluating WIF ‘n Proof, please download the manual.

What’s New

WIF ‘n Proof now has a project Notes & Reports section.  This section will calculate the number of heddles required per shaft, the yardage per color for warp and weft, and the approximate size of the piece when removed from the loom.  At the yarn shop, this report will help you estimate what you need, but you should always purchase extra.  You can also enter notes on a draft, and save those notes to your database.

I am still waiting on Dropbox to support files transfer for web apps, but you can now Export any draft you have designed.  The WIF file is automatically inserted in an email you can send to anyone.  You can use this to transfer a design from one device to another, to your computer to import into computer drafting software, or just to a friend.   WIF ‘n Proof is not as yet able to create drafts with the sophistication of a computer drafting program, but it is a good jumping off point and allows you to design on the go.

Several people have asked for a way to highlight the current end or pick when using WIF ‘n Proof to assist at the loom.  I have added a Magnifier to the threading, the treadling and the lift plan screens.  To turn it on, tap on the button with the magnifying glass or just tap on the draft itself.  It will move along as you tap Next Pick or Next End.  To turn it off, tap on the magnified window.

If you have a question or a problem running WIF ‘n Proof, drop me an email at [email protected].  I will do my best to assist you or to correct the problem promptly.

This is very exciting. I look forward to trying it out, once I get my head wrapped around my current warp! I'm using space dyed hand spun, so I have to figure out how long to make the warp to get the best effect!

Thanks,

Erica

Hi Helen, I greatly appreciate the magnifying of the current warp and weft, but so far I am unable to get them to turn off once activated. I have tried forwarding and reversing the position of the pointer and pressing the magnifying glass without success. I spent several hours entering a tartan pattern. It was simple in that it was a straight draw and 2/2 twill. It took a while getting the color order etc, but finally got it how I wanted it. I entered notes and let the program figure yarn amounts, heddle counts etc. Once I closed the program I can't find the notes again. What did I do wrong? Next is a request that may help others besides me. I have several patterns with similar names i.e. Sweedish 1, Sweedish 2, etc. and I sometimes forget which fabric I was viewing and there was no name at the top to remind me. Could you put the pattern name at the top of the fabric viewing page? Sincerest thanks for all your hard work. Helen Smith

I thought I had read the instructions more thoroughly. I can now turn off the magnifier when I touch it. My apologies. Helen

Hi Helen

You were the originator of the magnifying glass, so I thank you for that.  Originally in development, turning it on and off was only done by tapping on the draft to turn it on and tapping on the magnifier to turn it off.  I added the button as an afterthought.  I try to add turning it off with the same button.

As for the notes - you have to tap on 'Save my Notes' before leaving the screen to retain them.

I'll add the name to the fabric view. - Thank you for that.

And everyone, please keep the requests coming.  I do run out of ideas eventually :)

Helen, I am working on a tartan pattern with six colors and of course lots of color changes when warping and weaving. When using the magnifier to help with warping or weaving the magnified bar covers the color bar on the side or top. Could you possibly magnify the color bar as well as the line? This would be a huge help while threading with lots of colors or weaving with several color changes in the weft. I still love WNP! Helen

Hi Helen,

The magnifier should not be covering the colorbar - it is situated just below or just to the left of the colorbar and the current color is centered at the top.  If you are not seeing that, make sure you have the latest version on your iPad - v1.2t, b5.

That being said, I will see if I can add the current color to the top or right of the magnifier.  It would then definitely cover the colorbar.  If anyone objects, please let me know.
