I'm weaving my first belt on my inkle loom and was wondering if the woven material should be washed before finishing and threading it through the belt hardware.  I'm guessing I should but was wondering how more experienced weavers would handle this.  I'm using 3/2 cotton for warp and weft.  It's coming along nicely so far.  Also, if washing is advised, would that be washing by hand or put it in the machine?  Use the drier or air dry?

When making a belt on the inkle loom, I do not usually wet finish it at all.  If I feel the need, I will do it by hand in the sink with warm water and a mild soap.  I let it dry on a drying rack or clothesline.

Have you posted pictures?  Would love to see the belt.

Finished the belt.  This photo taken before the end piece was attached.  Colors were chosen by my husband and he's pleased with how it came out.  I used 3/2 perle cotton yarn from Yarn Barn.

I never wash warp faced belts like these. Your belt looks great!

I have been meaning to make a belt for myself...keep getting lost in other projects.  Good thing I keep a journal with a list in the back of 'ideas'.  Comes in very handy when I am having a creative glitch and can't decide on my next project or motif.

Your belt is awesome and I remember wearing buckles like those many times as a kid.  I am sure your husband wears it with pride.
