I’m working on sample #14 twining.. where one is to  “ Twine at least four inches, leaving a long warp fringe. Finish the warp fringe  in three different ways” My question is about the warp fringe part

Does anyone know if  edge treatments like a Damascus edge or Phillipine edge count or is it the actual length of the warp they want you do do things with? Those macrame type treatments?  Would doing a Phillipine edge on one side, Damascus on the other and then twisting one fringe and braiding the other count/ Or are they really looking for the work to be in the fringe itself and not the edge?

I've emailed Judie Eatough but not gotten a response, I see her online but she's not answering this one for some reason.

Thanks for any light shed on this!

Hi Ingamarie,

I would follow the instructions to the letter. I left the long weft fringe and did all the work on that side. I will post a picture for you Of what I did in a few minutes, with their response. If Judie doesn't respond , call her. If you don't have her phone number, e-mail the COE Chair, no excuse for that !

Oh. I'm trying to follow to the letter, I just don't know how to interpret it!  My friend who passed last year use some of the weft fringe and was docked points because it's supposed to be WARP fringe.  I'm wondering if edges count or just the long parts...

 COE Twining Sample, edge finishes

above is the long warp on the bottom of the sample. I have more finishes than they asked for just in case they ruled one out. Below is the fringe from the top, short and sweet just to make it look o.k.

COE twining Sample upper fringe

Below is the whole piece.

I'm really sorry this took so long to get up, my internet was down then problems with the monitor. I hope this helps ! I can write out my instructions for you, because the handbook has changed since I did it and the current handbook that you're using so you're not misguided by something I did. I got the full points from both jurors on this piece. If you have any other questions let me know :)

Oh, the selvedges on mine are knotted wefts to go along with all the other knots, the jurors  liked that .

Thanks for posting. I finally heard back from Judie and she thinks I shouldn't count the Damascus and Phillipine edges as fringe treatment. I'm going to try some braids. You'r lattice looks great.
