I'm planning a project that needs to be done in a hurry from yarn that I have on hand.  I have two yarns that I will be alternating for weft -- one a basic shetland type and the other a slightly heavier handspun.

The warp is a third yarn, and is uniform.

I want the finished cloth to show twill lines, and I'm trying to visualize the effect of two different weft yarns on those lines.  Any pointers?  They will differ in both value and texture.

Are the weft yarns different colors?  What is the cloth being used for?  I'm rather new myself, but I'm thinking you'll get a striping effect as well as twill diagonal lines or if you've matched colors well, then you'll have breaks involving texture variations. Depends on what you're weaving and the effect or look you're after. I'm always urged to sample. I'm guilty of whole project samples so I know, when in doubt, sample it out!  Good luck, and post a picture!

Try treadling so that the two yarns are offset by 2 picks. That is, 4-A, 2-B, 3-A, 1-B, 2-A, 4-B, 1-A, 3-B

The number is the treadle and the letter the yarn type.

This will give 2 parallel twill lines, one for each yarn and is quite attractive when finished.

Thanks!  I love the idea of two parallel twill lines.
