I would also like to wish all the best to everyone for the holidays and the new year.  I made the weaving e-card below from photos of some of my weavings that I posted on my blog and would like to extend my very  best to everyone at Weavolution too:

thank you,Eva.

nice card you made with samples of your  weavings.and nice blog too.seems you are in to more complex weavings but they are very beautiful.

Eva, I like your card. Next year for your very, very best friends you could send them a card with pieces of your weaving. Tell me about your 16h Macomber?

Thank you Jeannine and Michael!

I bought my 16h Macomber used many years ago and for a long time I was weaving mostly on 4-8 of the harnesses.  In the last few years I really got interested in more complex weaving and started using all 16h and sometimes  it got pretty hard to lift.  I wrote a comment and posted a picture in the general Weaving forum a while back (I think where Michael and Tina were also discussing Macombers) how a friend of ours made me an extension for some treadles that helps with the lifting.  At one time I considered buying a dobby loom but decided to just stay with my faithful Macomber.

Yes, maybe next year I will make some cards with pieces of my weavings but it would be so hard to decide who to send it to,  probably to my older weaving friends who are not computer literate with no internet.

Happy New Year!

Eva, so you are the lady with the treadle extension. I have not tryed that yet. In fact, Cheryl has not woven on the 16h Mac since May or June that piece is still warped. She has been using her 4h Mac and a 22" demo loom. I may try making longer treadles after I experiment with an extension. I checked out your blog, very nice. I few years ago we sold a Leclerc 4h 36" floor loom to a girl  at UGA that has graduated with her MFA and is working in NYC designing clothing for "Target." Back to the extensions, do you have to sit way back to use that long extension? And does it interfere with throwing a shuttle? A dumb question, since you are doing some lovely weaving on it.

Hi Michael, for the past two months I took a break from many harnesses and did some 4h color-and-weave experiments and I'm amazed how complex it can look but so easy to weave, the lifting felt like featherweight compared to what I've been doing lately.  You asked about the long extensions for the treadles on my 40" Mac--at first our friend only made me 2 to try out and no, I didn't have to sit way back just a little bit back, and at first it took a bit getting used to because the rest of the harnesses were their regular length so my feet had to remember to move backwards for the long ones and forward for the short ones.  But the difference in ease of lifting was worth it for me and so I asked him to make me 2 more.  There's no interference with throwing the shuttle at all.  BUT it is a little awkward, maybe if I had the extension on all the harnesses it would be better but I just like the way I can put the extension on and off so easily just where I need it.  I also have a 56" Mac (only 8h).  I was curious to see if they fit on the treadles on this wider loom but they don't because the width on these treadles are slightly different so if you plan on trying it out it's important to measure so the fit is good.

Happy New Year to you and Cheryl!

Eva, Happy New Year! We have three Macs, 4h 48", 8h 56" and a 16h 56" the treadles on all of then are different. If you think that 40" is hard to lift, add 16" to each frame. I may just replace the heddle frames on the 16h with either wood or metal. I will put all the pieces together for one frame and weight it. Just to see what the weight is.

Have a great year,

Michael and Cheryl

You're right, Michael, with a very wide Mac the extensions might not be such a good idea and also it gets more awkward on the treadles farthest from the middle.  Your plan sounds like it might work out well for you.

Deb, what a great way to welcome the New Year with a shiny and colorful new warp!

This is a warp from Just Our Yarn, a beautifully space dyed warp of many colors.  It is tencel set at 60 epi, I'll post a picture on my projects page when I have time away from family and loom.  I plan to do a satin curve with it, with one scarf having a brown weft and the 2nd a red weft.  I "think" it will pull the colors together.  We'll see, I'm still not that comfortable with varigated type yarns as warp.

Happy New Year!
