Need help with the threading of a 4 thread salvage edge.  The main body pattern is on page 118 of the Davidson book...pattern: waffle weave.  I have tried several threadings and nothing gives me a tabby...I want to avoid a floating thread.  Any suggestions?

If you only have a 4 shaft loom it looks like there is not one.  Working with 1,2,1,2 you are close - but part of the pattern is not in tabby.

Tried it with my weaving software - just a quick look - but not every threading and tie up work.

I'll go for anything....2 thread....3 thread.....to avoid a floating salvage...

You can have it work if you can thread on shaft 5 and 6.   But if you look at the tie up - and what you are treadling for the pattern it won't work.  Try a little draw down - luckily I could try on the computer - Maybe a different pattern from that page - because the fundamental threading will give you a tabby.

On a 4-shaft waffle threading, I've put 2, 4, 1, 4 before that draft you're using, and ended with 1, 4, 2. This will catch your edge threads and provide a firm edge - maybe not exactly "tabby", but that's not necessary, just that you catch the threads at the edge of the piece.

Like Sara says, a plain weave selvedge isn't necessary, and in fact can cause problems because plain weave takes up differently than other weave structures.  The point of a selvedge is to have a secure edge, not a plain weave edge.
