The aprons on my loom are in good shape, so I've decided to keep them for now, but the short strings that hold the metal rods have seen better days. I'm going to warp my loom back to front for this next project, and trying to work the rod out of the strings is torture (so that I can place the warp loops on instead of tying on). I was toying with the idea of replacing the strings with texsolv, like on my Schacht ridged heddle, but was wondering if there was a reason not to. Seems easier than tying new strings.

Has anyone done this?

Yes, I did this on my little CP.  The aprons were really gross, so I made new ones and attached the rods with short pieces of texsolv following Katie Meek's instructions.  So far it has worked well.

The thought of cutting and tying all those strings the same length wasn't appealing. I'm not familiar with Katie Meek--where would I find her instructions?

Thanks!

I will email the instructions (just have to find them).

for the support! It's all done. I have pictures here. I like it much better than the old string.

I changed the little strings on my apron on my CP last night too. Umm, technically my husband did it! He is the one with the Knots Knowledge. I used a heavy un-stretchy twine I got at the hardware store and it worked great. I would have used texlov if I had had some but this was easier. Mine looks much like Kiikis.
