Sorry, this is probably a really dumb question. I'm a tapestry and rigid heddle weaver, but am trying to learn other forms of weaving. I have this really cool old loom (see picture http://davjackstudios.blogspot.com) and was wondering...is this a double harness loom? Thanks...DJ

That is a tiny 2 SHAFT table loom.

Double harness is something else - it means that there is one set of shafts that forms a "ground harness" and a set of pattern heddles and shafts that form the pattern. Each thread passes through 2 heddles and the pattern is controlled wither by wooden pulls or by pulling each pattern unit separately. This is your traditional damask loom and can be used to produce other very complex fabrics.

Technically "harness" means a group of shafts working together to perform a single function.

A frame with heddles is a heddle frame or shaft.

Thank you. I didn't think it was but I wasn't sure.
