As i previously stated, I made 500ml of 2% stock at the beginning of the class - how often is everyone making stock? How much do you make at a time?

Thanks for your experience -

I also made my 2% stocks at the beginning of class.  I'm wondering if I should make fresh stock???

Karren K. Brito

For acid dyes I make as much as I can at a time, for FR dyes I only make as much as I can see using in the forseeable future.  I have thrown more FR dyes away...

2% Cibacron F stocks might be good for 2 months, ProChem says 2 weeks (but they need to be conservative ).  The more dilute ones probably have a shorter shelf-life.   I'd make 100mL and make it often to keep it fresh.

I've run out of most of the 100mL stocks I made initially, and have recently made more, in 250mL this time, since I'm still doing my pure colors.  I'll have to see how long I end up with these.

BTW, I found some volumetric flasks like the ones Karren had in her presentation on dye stock making, available as singles.  They have a stopper instead of a screw-on cap, but are otherwise the same with a mixing chamber, etc.

They aren't cheap, but are cheaper than getting packs.

Great link Linda. I may get that 250ml flask. the 100 is a bother because funnels don't fit but the 500 is too much to waste - like i had this morning before making new stocks.

Yes, the 250mL has the same size neck as the 500mL, so the same stopper, and the same funnel sizes.
