Can someone please tell me what I need to do to get plain weave w/ 2 heddles to get fine weave cloth? The instructions in Jane Patricks & Syne Mitchells books are giving me basket weave, not plain weave! What am I doing wrong?

I have not learned this technique. I did the Internet search with the words 'double weave troubleshoot' and saw several pages that may help you.

I have only used 2 heddles for weaving 2/1 twill, which is slightly different. We have several nice rigid heddle groups here on Weavolution. The Halloweave House Spook of the Loom featured bushing the limits of a rigid heddle loom, this post lead me to the Schacht Flip Manual.  Page 12 of the Flip manual has an excellent diagram of threading your rigid heddle loom wiht 2 heddles for plain weave.

There is also this great Rigid Heddle group you've posted in with 12 pages of discussions!

I look forward to seeing what you weave!

Thank you so much for the threading info. That is the threading in Jane Patricks book. Weaving the 2up/2down is the problem, it creates basket weave.  All I'm trying to do is create the hem between towels. There has to be something I'm missing.

Hi

I have never woven with 2 heddles before so take what I say with a grain of salt.  I have Syne's book and my only suggestion is that perhaps when you were threading the 2 heddles weren't aligned properly (i.e. with slots in front of slots; see figure 4 on page 203).  Just a suggestion
