Hi, everyone,

I am getting ready to warp a blanket using worsted weight acrylic yarn. Are there any major pitfalls I need to watch for in particular?

Any experienced acrylic weavers out there who might be able to offer some advice?

I searched the 'net but could find little help.

Thanks and Happy New Year to everyone!

I've used acrylic yarn for scarves. The first difference is that it stretches a lot. So you should try a narrow sample so you get an idea of how much stretch you'll get so you can estimate for finished size.

Have a good day!

Hi Gayle,

I have had the same experience as Franco. Acrylic yarn can  have a lot more stretch/elasticity than natural fibers like cotton, linen or silk so it's a good idea to sample before you make the blanket.  One choice as Franco cited is to put on a narrow, short warp and do a sample.  The other choice is to calculate your warp and add an extra 12-18" for a sample at tChe beginning of your project.  I always do a sample and make notes either on a project sheet or in My Project here on Weavolution.

Good luck and please let us know how it goes.
