My Corner Of The World - June 2013 Because of the popularity of this thread, we'll start a new thread each month! The idea is to tell us what is going on in your corner of the world. It does not have to be weaving related, but it could be. Feel free to tell us about holidays in your country, whether it is religious, or Independence day, or commemoration days. Please include a picture when you add your post. Weavers are very visual people. Please remember to downsize your photo before uploading. Be sure to tell us where you are (city, state/province, country?) This forum has members internationally. Have a good day! Last month: May 2013 http://www.weavolution.com/forum/chat/my-corner-world-may-2013-26039

I'm so glad we were able to open posting back up in time for the June My Corner of the World! I really love the list of National Holidays around the world Franco, it's very enlightening!

Have a great June, I hope some folks are getting more June-like weather than we are in England! ;)

Ta,

Erica

it's the 1st day of June here in the Adelaide hills(down under) hence 1st day of winter and the weather is spot on, cold and wet:after a warmer than usual autumn I can finally enjoy the rain on my garden, reading or knitting socks in front of a log fire, cold weather food(yay!!!) and best of all, the excuse to stay inside and weave rather than weed the veg garden.

I was just coming home from errands about 8 p.m. last night and had to do a double take of my front door stoop. I had no idea deer could do stairs! I wish I could mount a platform on the other side of the shrub so s/he could even out the pruning.

nice to se the two of them out about together1 What museum are they visiting?

sally orgren

of course! I was planning to weave on the way there and back, but ended up reviewing materials for my upcoming tied weaves workshop at the end of the week. I think the workshop will be taxing my little grey cells...

My corner of the world is shifting - or should I say *I* am - to Bellingham, WA and the ANWG conference.

See anyone else there?  (I'm hoping to finally meet Laverne W!)

cheers,

Laura

Laura,

I have always been impressed by ANWG after attending Convergence in Vancouver in 2002. That conference was so well organized and it seemed like the whole town threw out the welcome mat as soon as you crossed the bridge and saw all the weaving banners flying! (I wonder if anyone on Weavo owns one of those banners?)

The sophistication of that fashion show hasn't been matched in a long time. The region seems like one of those places on the planet where there is a concentration of excellent weavers and lots of high quality weaving synergy.

Lucky you! It should be a great conference. (I need to retire so I can sample each regional conference.) I'm putting that idea on my bucket list!

Sally

P.S. I know it's a long shot, but do you think there is any chance you can convince Syne to resume Weave Cast?

laurafry

Syne is very busy with a full time job and family. Maybe one of these days. She sure is a good interviewer. Cheers Laura

Inky & Bandit found some buddies just across the hall after arriving at the MAFA conference. And one of my workshop class mates just came from a workshop with Laverne Waddington at the Mannings.

Yesterday I spent 6 hours hanging an exhibit for Weavers of Western Mass. It took 7 of us and a lot of work, but I am pleased with the way it turned out. Today I hope to go back and see what it really looks like! If you are in MA this weekend, the show is not far from Webs and we would love to have you join us. This weekend only, 10-5 Sat and Sun at Loomis Village, 20 Bayon St., So. Hadley. There is a juried section, a non-juried section, and a section with the master projects of Barbara Hurley, this year's graduate of the 6-year Hill Institute master weaver certification program.

Whew after a hectic few weeks, we're enjoying a lovely visit with Oliver's friends and family and I'm tucking into a weaving project. I brought a box to weave a tapestry bag! I've been wanting to do this since I read the article in the January 2008 issue of Handwoven! I have the slots cut and am working on warping it. I'll even be able to take it on the plane with me for the flight down to, my true corner of the world, Missouri!

A few snaps from my morning walk in Bricktown. Another hot and steamy day is in store!

Yarn Bombing in the children's area of the Botanical Gardens:

The OKC Memorial. I was here soon after the memorial was created, but I didn't realize the base of the chairs are made of glass. So I noticed on my return visit this weekend, when the sun hits them from a low angle, it looks like they are glowing.

Pillowy soft, HOT sopapillas. Pour on the honey! Yummmmmmmmmmmm

killing me - I am sitting here at my desk starving and you post a picture of a yummy looking sopapilla - arrrrrgh! Hey - you know you are only 5 hours away from me - come on down for a visit!

I've got clients in Texas, just haven't paid them a call recently as my coworkers from Iowa covered those gigs. (But it's only a matter of time.)

I switched hotels this morning and the view of the wagon statue where the land rush began is right outside my window, and one of those yellow boats is heading my way.

On the way to Horsetail Falls, near Strawberry, Calif (Hwy 50) We hiked up to the base of the falls during our little vacation in the Sierra Nevada. We stayed at Lake Tahoe for 5 nights. It was a wonderful week for just me and my lovely wife. Have a good day day!
