My Corner Of The World - July 2014 Because of the popularity of this thread, we'll start a new thread each month! The idea is to tell us what is going on in your corner of the world. It does not have to be weaving related, but it could be. Feel free to tell us about holidays in your country, whether it is religious, or Independence day, or commemoration days. Please include a picture when you add your post. Weavers are very visual people. Please remember to downsize your photo before uploading. Be sure to tell us where you are (city, state/province, country?) This forum has members internationally. Have a good day! Last Month: June 2014 http://www.weavolution.com/forum/chat/my-corner-world-june-2014-29288

Sally, I got this image of me spinning in the mpuntaibs in Utah to upload pn my Samsung Note  I'll e-mail you back so we can troubleshoot your problem.

I am done with school finally. (Until grad school at some point, haha.) And that means I need to tear my house apart and reorder my personal universe. Apparently. Also, I inherited many sewing and knitting items from my Grandmother, including her serger and a dressform for my size. And all of those things need to be incorporated into the controlled chaos of my studio and home. And the huge stack of circular knitting needles needs some organization.

So that is how my July is shaping up! Most of my small studio is shoved up against the wall so that I can walk through it. My pugs are wondering when all the moving things and vacuuming will end and they can get back to napping. And I have grand plans to install a large IKEA Ivar shelving unit on the wall. (But that will have to wait until August.)

White pelicans in West Sacramento Calif. * Note: I uploaded pic then when I tried to select the pic, it seemed to disappear. Then I noticed I had multiple browser windows open, that's then I noticed the selection popup window was hidden under my active window. I use firefox.

All background windows are closed. I was able to load one photo to another forum before this. Then I was thwarted with any further attempts.

Still a no go at this forum. All the steps to load an image appear to work fine, until the last step. When I click to add the image to this window, it doesn't appear! (Safari).

Sadly, I am on a fantastic trip taking amazing photos I would love to share, but it's been over a week now, and I can't seem to post images consistently.

Sally, welcome to my iphone world, Rav uploads work like a charm, quickly and painlessly.  I've given up here.  Maybe if folks continue to donate to Weavo photo uploads will be less painful in the mobile world.

Here is what's going on in my corner of the world: chocolate satellites! I made this sculpture of SkySat-2 over the weekend - SkySat-2 is a small imaging satellite made by my employer, Skybox Imaging (which was just bought by Google, so as soon as the deal closes I'll be working for Google). SkySat-2 launched yesterday and I made a half-scale model of the satellite for our launch party.

Here is the "real" satellite:

And here is SkySat-Chocolate:

SkySat-Chocolate

It's about 15 pounds of top-quality chocolate, and I'm pleased to say it was mostly devoured by happy coworkers yesterday. It was a big hit at the launch party!

SkySat-2 launched successfully yesterday too. According to the official company announcement, "We are happy to announce the launch of SkySat-2 this morning aboard a Soyuz-2/Fregat rocket from Baikonur, Kazakhstan. We made contact with the satellite on the first pass."

Here is a pic of the launch pad (taken from space by our first imaging satellite, SkySat-1):

And here is a pic of SkySat-2 launching aboard a Soyuz-2/Fregat rocket yesterday:

Exciting times!

Oh, and I got so excited over the weekend because I saw a quail perched on my backyard fence.

*sigh*

LOL!

Congratulations Tien on your chocolate SkySat and the real one. When I look at the rocket launch photo I see great weaving colors and pattern ideas. Off to my stash...

OMG! I just realized I could weave that rocket launch photo on a jacquard loom. I'm spending the rest of this week test-driving jacquard looms, so this is perfect. I think I'll try weaving it on Tuesday, while at AVL.

Thanks for the idea! This will make an awesome wall hanging to display in my cubicle at work.

I can't wait to see it!

It is great to see photos of other people's studios. Very interesting, as I am just taking up part of the kennel room with my loom..... What is that, a drum in the middle???

sarahnopp (not verified)

oh in the middle of my photo? Yes, it is one of the drums we own. But that is not supposed to be representative of my studio LOL it is just to show the mess that sometimes comes of organziation :)

La La

That IS interesting.... Well I know how things can pile up. Right now around here, one loom is in the kennel room so the Frenchies can watch me weave, and the other is in the garage.. Would be nice to have studio space someday. Maybe in the next house, I can dream...

This is the last month of My Corner Of The World.

There just hasn't been as much traffic for several months. It was a good run and I think we had lots of fun. But the show can't go on forever.

I want to thank every one who posted and who read and liked it!

Until the next project!

Have a joyful day!

Does anyone under 50 know who this cartoon character IS anymore?

We had a return to cooler, fall like weather, so the steam was rising up off the lake, the blue heron was fishing at the beach, a family of seven Canada geese were waddling down to the water's edge and we saw a wild turkey and two young offspring foraging in the brush. All that about 6:30 this morning on the way to the gym! I will try and post a photo, but not having much luck with this site's forum photo posts since early July.
