My Corner Of The World - February 2012 Because of the popularity of this thread, we'll start a new thread each month! The idea is to tell us what is going on in your corner of the world. It does not have to be weaving related, but it could be. Please include a picture when you add your post. Weavers are very visual people. Please remember to downsize your photo before uploading. Be sure to tell us where you are (city, state/province, country?) This forum has members internationally. Have a good day! OK - that's what I need to know.  :)  I'll be flying down from Seattle, which is generally warm at that time of year.  As long as it isn't raining.  :)

cheers,

Laura

The Western Bluebirds are back! They will nest somewhere around here and then leave after the summer. Last year I couldn't get a picture but this year I've got a good camera! It's going to be different this year! Have a good day! Franco Rios Sacramento, Calif.

almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction for seasons...

Back when I lived in LA, I described the four seasons as "fire" (fall), "flood" (winter), "mudslides" (spring), and "scandal".

Here in the Bay Area we have your missing seasons: our seasons are late spring, early summer, and early fall, which stretches into late spring.  It rarely gets below freezing; since we've moved to Sunnyvale the lowest temperatures we've seen have been about 28 degrees.  It's never snowed in the 15 years I've been living here.

Come winter with us!

Lots of Canadians go to Arizona (from the west) and Florida (from the east).  OTOH, you're pretty much directly south of me.  :)

cheers,

Laura

almost packed - early - because Monday is going to be a bit fraught with Life Events - can hardly wait to get to NC/FL!

day in Central Texas but not cold - not sure if we will get rain or not.Taking the day off from work to go out to my local weaving shop to meet Joanne Hall. It should be a fun day!

Brilliant sunshine today - there was frost on the windshield to be scraped off, but it's supposed to get to nearly 60, which means maybe I can beam my warp.  My loom is in a room that is uninsulated/unheated (a formerly screened porch with brick walls that has got real windows in it now but still has no wallboard or insulation), so I can't go out there unless it's fairly warm out and the sun is beating on the windows.  I got the heddles threaded yesterday but then the sunshine ran out, so I haven't beamed.  It's 8/2 natural linen that is going to have turquoise 5/2 cotton woven onto it for some nice kitchen towels.  I hope to invest in finishing the room this summer so it'll be possible to keep it climate-controlled, but this will come at the cost of about 4 inches of space on three sides...

Unfortunately, Inky has to stay home this time. It's too short of a trip, and based on my experience in January, I am *not* checking a bag this time so they can "delay it". I'll need my carry on space for clothes and my laptop. Frankly, between travel and the meeting/presentation/scouting, I don't think I'll have time to do much else.

As they say, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder."

Aunt Janet! I think I found another song for your Chicken Babies! Youtube video link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UL9cUoSfx6I& First recorded in 1968 by Barbara Acklin, the song "Am I The Same Girl" still sounds fresh some 35 years later when sung by Corinne Drewery of Swing Out Sister. Also recorded by Dusty Springfield. Have a good day!

Enjoy Leap Day!

It only comes around every four years!

Have a joyful day!

I'm sitting here at my desk watching the traffic on I-35 wondering where all those people are going to. It is a grey and wet day here in Central Texas and I am wishing I was anywhere but at work! Not really - am hoping for a productive day at work and an equally productive evening at the loom when I get home. Have a great leap day everyone!

Endorph, where in central TX are you?

I am up in Wichita Falls today, and I will be back down in Forth Worth tonight for a dinner, then heading back home before dawn tomorrow. I checked out the greater DFW guilds, looks like I just missed the Fort Worth gang that met on the 28th over by TCU's campus.

I am in Waco - have not joined a guid yet - still checking them out around here! Hopefully the weather will cooperate with your travel plans

that hit KS and MO last night, and apparently I am supposed to be getting snow back home. (Sunny and nice here in Northern TX).
