Seen here is a 5/8" wooden dowel which permits you to release the brake from the middle of the loom. The dowel is not in the way of your foot or the operation of the treadles. As built the cloth beam handle drops all the way down. I added a screw (or dowel) to the inside of the beater upright to hold the handle up so you do not have to reach under the loom to get it.
