Can anyone please recommend a lubricant for ensuring that the shafts move smoothly within the vertical wooden guide rails?

Schacht says to use silicone lubricant on their looms.

My loom was an early one with wooden channels and they said to use the same product.  I didn't spray it on, I sprayed it onto a cloth and wiped the shaft edges and channels with the cloth, AFTER cleaning both with alcohol as a degreaser.

If you have wooden channels, check for rough spots, splinters, etc. and smooth first with fine sandpaper, removing all the dust before lubricating.

silicone spray works like a dream and does not hurt the wood finish

As a wood refinisher I will tell you silicone may not hurt the wood. But, it makes it very hard to refinish any wood that has had silicone sprayed on it. You are better off using bees wax.
