I have a commission for 2 wide rugs (40" in the reed) and am almost finished threading.  Usually I lash on when making rugs but this is the widest I have gone.  Should I lash onto the front apron bar or tie on?  What will yield more even tension?  Should I lash on in small groups of 10-12" at a time?

Once I have completed my sample, I plan on moving to the 2-stick header described by Peggy Osterkamp here.  I need to have the tension correct to begin with.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I just finished lashing on a rug measuring 39".  I did it all in one group.  It tensioned up beautifully.  I rachet it up tight and leave it over night and unevenness all comes out.

We have had our best results when we started at the middle of the apron-rod w/ half-bout increments, then proceeding alternately right, then left. then right, etc., carefully matching tensions as you go !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahh, choices.  I may tie on and after the sample I'll assess my tension and go to the 2-stick heading.

Thanks for the advice.

I meant I tied on in 1" bundles but it is lashed on with one lasher? across the entire 39"
