"Potpourri" exchange for Jockey Hollow Weavers.

Participants filled out a questionnaire in Sept, and put that in a bag with various yarns. We traded bags, and must now weave something by the June meeting for the person whose yarns we received. We don't have to use all the yarns in the bag, and we can supplement if we wish.

At the bottom of the warp wrap are some of the yarn colors my exchange person gave me. I tired to use the pastel variegated but I thought it just died against the grayed-purple. (looks a little better in the photo than real life!)   So I tried some of the brighter stuff from my stash, and I think that made the purple pop. (When I went back to check the questionnaire, her favorite colors were "purple, green, and blue" so that kind of cinched it. She included a cone of poly-pink, and a thin white and grey wool, all of which I have set aside.   For the wider, dark solid areas, I am going to weave the star pattern to break it up. The yarn has a bit of a sheen to it, so I hope that will make the stars pop out of such a dark background. The plum weft I am considering is a cottolin, maybe to use in multiple strands to beef it up the grist. I hope it warms up the dark purple warp a bit, and gives more contrast to the star area, although I believe I have enough of the dark purple to do all the weft in that, too. And I hope it will give a matte-gloss contrast too.   I am weaving 3 yards, full width. That's 20-24" loom waste, 12-16" to sample, and the rest for the project. 18 epi, 18 pattern repeats across 45" width.    It took me one whole evening to move heddles around. Shaft 1& 2 are carrying almost 300 heddles a piece!
