Hello all,

I am Claudia Segal, I started the rigid heddlers group when Weavolution first launched in June  2009.  I still love rigid heddle weaving and spend equal amounts of time on my rigid heddle loom and Glimakra Standard.  Well, actually I spend more time on the rh since it's in the family room and easy to stop and throw a few picks before dinner or in the early evening.  My current project is black and white napkins in a set of 4 on my Glimakra Emilia.  The sett is a bit tight for the rh but the result, when I sampled, was exactly what I wanted so I have continued with the design.

Since I last posted, I took Judie Eatough's class in Virtual weaving and learned a ton about using PixeLoom and other programs suitable for a Mac.  I just found Pixeloom more user friendly.  I posted the project in my Projects and here is a small tidbit:

What wonderful projects are you working on for holiday gifts or for your personal interest?

Claudia

Hello Everyone,

My name is Melisa Morrison from Alba Ranch.  I weave on several Rigid heddle looms and just love them.  here are two projects that I have done this year.

Holly Berry Ruana is hand spun, hand wove, on 32 in rigid heddle in double weave with double heddles using pick up sticks for double width.  it was double everything. ha!  my frist one and it is all mine.  weather is just changing so I will be able to wear it soon.  can't wait.

Bits and Bobs is an entry that was just shipped out yesterday to a large art show in Grand Rapids, MI.  Art Prize 2011.  didn't really see any fiber artists much in the entire show of 1500+ artists EACH year so trying to represent for Fiber!

Jacket, wrap skirt in kilt fashion and matching bag.  hand spun and hand wove on Rigid heddle then crocheted together and fulled in the washer as an expierment!

So I use rigid heddles in my group art projects all the time, in fact I have designed one that is basically a super-simple backstrap rigid heddle that only has 40 warps across and needs no knots to set up, even! I am based in Berlin, Germany, but travel all over (this weekend I will be working in Norway doing a project alongside Glenn Adamson's textile/photogrpahy show shot through...

Will try to keep you posted on progress! We will make 30 strips of cloth that when combined should produce a 13 by 20 foot "tapestry"!

Oh I also sell the rigid heddles I make on my website actionweaver.com, but that's another story...
