Woolen hand loomed tapestry or rug needing identification

i just picked this up at a thrift store. It's clearly intricate and definitely wool and handmade.

Any idea of what ive got here?

i appreciate any help you can provide in identifying this !

One woman wears a sari.  Another sits on a kilim.  I'm not sure about the clothing of the others.  The building in the background looks like the Mogul stonework of NW India or Pakistan, where you also might see flower garlands being made.  However, you see stonework like that much farther to the west.

Is that a cotton warp?  Is it pile?  How many knots per inch?  Can you identify the knot type?  These can tell you a lot.

It's modern, and clearly depicts people, which strict Islam would ban.  My guess -- it's only that -- is India.

What does the back side look like? That would shed some lighton the technique. It is difficult to tell much from the photo other than that the design is terribly busy, doesn't really match any particular style or culture, and may very well be one of those pieces sold for tourists.

Post more detailed photos for a more accurate assessment.

Marla Mallett imports textiles and she possibly may recognize this.  Her website is http://www.marlamallett.com/

The technique appears to be tapestry from the details you've shown.  Good luck with finding an identification and please post what you learn, if you don't mind!
