I am putting a hand spun cotton warp on my 8H Baby Wolf for some towels. I was planning on a straight twill for the pattern. Normally I would just use only the first 4 H of the loom. I am wondering if its better to spread it out on all eight harnesses. Does it make a difference? I'd welcome any suggestions. thanks Kate

It only really makes a difference if your warp is dense (in which case spreading it over 8 shafts will help avoid floating shafts and sticky threads) or you want to weave an 8-shaft pattern on the same warp. Otherwise, either way works fine!

I'm done it on 4 or 8 shafts, works out the same.

Where you CAN save wear and tear on a delicate warp is in the reed denting. Two or three threads in a dent will not abrade as much as when you place only one in a dent.

Thanks everyone.  I decided to go over all 8 Shafts just because I haven't done it that way before.
