I was recently gifted several end feed shuttles and bobbins to be used in a flying shuttle beater. I don't have a flying shuttle beater, but I thought it wouldn't be that hard to make one. I have access to my husband's woodworking shop, and am somewhat technically minded. Has any one done this that could offer advice - also, I have seen a flying shuttle beater, but not up close, so some pictures or references would be helpful. I have a Leclerc Mira Fanny 4 harness counterbalance loom, and will be getting a 4-harness rug loom soon. Thanks for the help!!

I dont know whether these will be of help or not - fell free to ask about details. Good luck!

I have a Glimakra and a Leclerc. I like the Glimakra better.  If you would like, I can take detailed pics and measurements.  Let me know if you need them.

I too would be interested in pictures!  It would seem that I may be the proud mama of a Leclerc 36" 4 harness loom.

Thanks

The first loom I bought was a 36" LeClerc Artisat loom. I had no trouble weaving on that loom without a flyshuttle. Later I bought wider loom with 60" weaving width. Since my reach is about 61" (my height), I need a flyshuttle to weave items wider than 50" or so comfortably. I like the AVL single-box flyshuttle. The flyshuttle boxes occupy a fair amount of space in the weaving studio so I only have them on the widest loom where they are needed.

I've been off for a while (working).  As soon as my studio heats up, I'll take pics of the fly shuttles.

Some of the pictures were resized by the website.  If you need more detail or more pics, please contact me privately and I will send them to you.  The Leclerc will take a bigger, mill shuttle.  The far side of the race (the side you can't see) is curved to fit the Leclerc beater.  The Glimakra is easier to fit to other looms, as you can see.  It's on my 1750 barn frame.  The Leclerc cords were not intended to be attached to anything but the shuttle driver, but I hung them from the castle in the same manner as the Glimakra (seems to work better).  The dark wood is the Glimakra (stained) and the light is the Leclerc.  Not proud of the beater handle on the Glimakra, but I wanted it fast with materials at hand.
