i have dyed some wound yarn, lace weight wool.  it didn't exactly felt but was very sticky in many places and tangled pretty badly.  i may be able to salvage it for some yards but i would like to know what to do next time.  i used acid fast dye, and simmered it in vinegar and water to finish it.  how should i have done it to prevent this awful mess?

To prevent tangling, wind the yarn into a hank and loosely put ties around it-at least 6 of them.   The ties must be loose or die will not penetrate where they are.   When you put the wool into the dye pot, do not stir or agitate just gently push it in to get the air out.   Make sure your carefully rinse it out when done.  Hope this helps.
