My husband and I are on the train to London. The fast train takes almost an hour. Although we chat with each ther n the way, we also like to work on our tablets. I just finished drafting a tubular double weave in broken twill! I think this s probably one of the coolest things I've ever done on the train! Thanks for making this possible Helen! Cheers, Erica

Hi Erica,

What a thrill!  Thanks for letting me know.

Can you recommend inexpensive any drafting software that would be good for a beginner with an 8 shaft loom?

Helen S

Hi Chris

If you have an iPhone, iPod Touch or an iPad, or any equivalent Android device, of course I'm going to recommend WIF 'n Proof :)  It's inexpensive and easy to use.  8 shafts will display well on either of the two screen sizes that WIF 'n Proof supports.  I am also developing  WIF 'n Proof for the Kindle Fire (7 inch screen size) that will be available in November.

If not, and you have a PC then try WeaveDesign from Pikes Peak Weavers Guild.  It is shareware, which means it is free to download, but if you use it they request a donation.

If you are on a Mac then I do not know of any inexpensive drafting software.  Maybe someone else knows of one?

ChrisWeaveMaine, you did not say whether you had a mac or an ibm.  It matters which machine you have as many of the softwares do not cross over.  One main software has just put out a mac product, haven't heard how it has done in the marketplace.

I used excel and blacked in the grid squares for years before I bought the cheapest version of Weaveit for IBM.  Weaveit has served me well for years....  I recently upgraded to WeaveIt pro for my avl.  You'll find lots of opinions out there on softwares.  Look around your immediate weaving community and folks can show you what they have.  You are in an awesome area for guilds and conferences if you are located in Maine.  regards  Deb Mc

I'm a PC and Blackberry gal. (Court reporting software doesn't work on Apple products -- many have tried to no avail.) I'll check out the Weavit. I was going to use the grid on "Paint" which I use to design quilts, but it is kind of a pain and the more time I can spend at the loom, the better. I'll check with my local weaver friends, too.
