I've included some photos of my substrate, scarlet test skein, boring beige 3 runs, and pure colors.  My substrate is 8/2 cotton yarn, natural and unmercerized.  I scoured it in 500ml water with 5 g soda ash, per skein, with a drop of synthrapol, for a 15 minute boil.

Here is my cotton substrate, 8/2 cotton, natural and unmercerized - scoured and unscoured.  There's a noticable difference in the color after washing.

major difference - i just redid my entire cotton line and most but not all, climbed the value scale to a lighter color!

And the laundry companies know too.

Here is my test scarlet skein at 0.5% DOS.  No difference in the color of the skein after the second boil.

Is this the first of your pure colors, Donna?

Hestia

Karren,

This is my test skein in scarlet from week 2 HW.  I'm just trying to post everything that I should have posted earlier in consecutive order.

Tomorrow, I will finish posting where I am up to now.  If you approve, then I will continue with my dyeing with my current process.  If you think I should tweak my procedure then I will do as you suggest and continue my dyeing of the pure colors.  I just got my second roaster, so hopefully I will be able to speed up my output.

Here are the 3 chips.

Glad you are posting some pics.  Are the pale yellows level? hard to tell from photographs, you have to be the judge.  Don't forget to fill in the spreadsheet too.

These look good, have yet  to see all the notations in the spreadsheet.  Only Navy aand Turquoise to go.

I see you belong to the "do it right the first time club".

Yeah, the fun begins! Mixing colors is more interesting than boring old pures! i have done 8 this morning ! in the last stage before rinsing. and once again i screwed up my RP. Figured out my mistake. I have Fuchsia and Turquoise in the 2% stock bottles that are labeled wrong!! I thought I'd be able to remember it, but i'm still tense when measuring, and i don't notice the color, only the amount... poor RP!

I've been rearranging it and you maybe closer than you thought on 5G.

Less breast beating about mistakes and more analysis.  Maybe they are just random experiments; anyhow what can we learn from what we did.

Shoot! I just came from the worksheet and wondered how i screwed up my entire worksheet from this morning - i just fixed everything back to the way it was - so... i have no idea what you did. sorry!

Hestia

I can't wait to do the mixed colors!  I only have navy yet to go for the pures, so almost there...
