I just Googled 'hand loom parts' and got quite a few hits.  Unfortunately because weaving happens all over the world and different cultures have different languages, the parts are not all labelled to the US standard but vary according to whomever has posted the information.

For example, one page identifies the 'batten' which we in North America refer to as the 'beater'.  Perhaps this is something that we could do here on Weavo - make a list of the various parts of the loom with all the various names different countries/cultures use?

Weaving is a technology that has been happening for thousands of years - and it does have it's own language which can be confusing for a newcomer to the craft....

Many books have information - Mary Black's New Key to Weaving, Allen Fannin's Handloom Weaving Technology, Laila Lundell's book (title escapes me), Zielinski's little dictionary, and so on.  You can download the book from the Leclerc website by Robert Leclerc.  It has diagrams of the various Leclerc looms with the parts identified, if I remember correctly.

cheers,

Laura

This book is a wonderful overview of looms throughout history. I think it might be available still. Tommye
