We are past due for a WAL.  So, I suggest we work on a design focused project using stripes.  I am fascinated by stripes and am just finishing a plaid scarf that I sampled for differential shrinkage.  The sample was not impressive but if there is just a little difference in the warp and weft stripes to create some ruffling after wet finishing, I'll be happy.

So, I'm thinking, after reading Amelia's post about stripes and the interesting responses, it's time for a crazy stripes WAL.  It'll be an exercise in planning, sampling, warping and weaving.

Who'e on?  Starting April 30th?  What do you say?

I like the shawl very much and I' love to see (and touch) it "in real". :-(

My own project is finally finished as well. I am thinking of starting a kind of pillow-experiment-serial and do some other ones in the next months. Let's see...

Here it is:

Next time, I would probably choose another material for the weft; something fluffing-up. Maybe wool ... but definitely not a smooth yarn, because the structure is not as clear as I hoped it to be and the loops tend to resolve.

That pillow is pretty cooool! There are so many things you can do with weaving material that's for sure...this is one great example!

OK here's my random stripe blanket, finally completely finished. It's gone off to it's new home to be snuggled by a forthcoming baby girl! :)

What did you think of the deck of card strategy?  I'm thinking of using that one for a future project.

I think I like it.  I have until Fall to produce something and time is going quickly.  I left the "cards" spread out in a place I have to pass every day and I have been considering what to do.

I would allow people to exchange with one another if you do it in person.  So, for instance, if I pick silk as a fiber and I have never woven with silk, i should be allowed to exchange with someone who has cotton or wool.

That's was my only suggestion for improvement.  We have 5 categories and you must use 4 of 5 in your final piece.
