I am in the process to redoing all the heddles on my 16 shaft macomber.  I am putting less heddles with big eyes for some work with rugs.

My old shafts (the first 8 that were on the loom when I bought it) have a wire on the side of the shaft that holds the heddle rod in place.  My new shafts (the second 8 that I put on the loom after I bought it) just use the little brass paper holders.  I have had problems finding this brass pieces in the office supply stores.  Are there any other things that you have found to use to hold the heddle rods in place?

They have these at Office Max and probably Staples.  Look where you would find paperclips...I know becuase I just bought some.

If you don't have one of the above office supply stores in your part of Utah you could use a small ring or cotter(hitch) pin from your local hardware store.

Those little brass things annoy me, so I use safety pins -- ths smaller the better.  I've also tried paper clips , bobby pins, and cotter pins, but you have to cut down the latter two.  Cotter pins and bolt cutters to cut them can be found at your local farm supply store.

Try that, or else ask a grade-school teacher where to get them.

In the worst case, email me at [email protected] and I'll post you a box of little brass things.

I found the brass fasteners, but they seemed larger that what was on the loom. I tried a paper clip, but I think it got caught on the shaft next to it. The paper clip got really pulled out of shape. I have thought about the small round paperclips but I like the idea of small safety pins. I will look into the ones I have on hand.
