I am working on the second project on my Harrisville jack loom.  I cannot get a shed!  I have checked the warping, the tie-up, and the cords holding the shafts.   When I depress the treadles, the threads that are raised are mushy.   I had no issues on my first project.   The tension seems very even without any shafts raised.  Any ideas?  Thank you,

Have you open and closed the loom. Make certain all the bars are in place and tight. You check all the right stuff. Are you certain the warp is going over the back beam? And all the cords are going over all the rollers?

when I press treadle, the side view looks nice when beater bar is to the back.  When the beater bar is to the front it is awful

Unfortunately, they are too small in this format to diagnose the problem, and there is no way to enlarge them. (We would be able to that with a project load.)

Why are you coming all the way forward with the beater? You should be working the sweet spot which is about half way. Can you not advance the warp or are you at the end of this warp?

Advance your warp and weave a little, even if the sheds are not good.  It will get better.

i will try that when I get home.  Thank you

Thank you for all your replies.  The knots in the photo were the beginning of the warp, I had not started weaving yet.  Turned out I had to move the S hooks that connected the shafts.   I don't know if the cords that connect the shafts stretched or is that common when using different threads.  My first  project was a sport weight yarn, this is 3/2 pearl cotton.
