Notes

I had warp leftover from another project, so I bought three skeins of JoAnn's polyester Bulky Blanket Yarn (220 yards per skein), to weave up a rug quickly, so I could clear the loom. I ended up with a really nice rug, 24" wide by 44" long and about 1/4" thick.

I implemented the twice-wound shuttle technique, to maintain the color order of the variegated yarn. That means labeling a series of shuttles 1,2,3, etc. Wind an unlabled shuttle, then wind this yarn onto shuttle 1. Repeat the process and then use the shuttles in numerical order so the yarn weaves up exactly as it came off the skein.

The loom was threaded 1,2,3,4. I treadled plain weave and I did not use a ground weft between the thick chenille worms.

About the header: When beginning and finishing a rug, weave a header. To begin, weave ¾” with a thin weft, perhaps the same
yarn as your warp. On the final pick, insert a slippery cord into the same shed (yellow in the photo). Weave another inch, but use the
same weft as you plan to use for the ground picks. On the final pick, insert a second slippery cord into the same
shed. Weave 1” with the ground weft, then introduce your chenille weft alternating with your ground weft.
When finished weaving the chenille, repeat these steps in reverse order, ending with ¾” of thin weft. Seal the
edges with a mixture of glue and water and let it dry completely before removing from the loom and hemming.
