I can cross reference every color except the Sabacron Royal Blue F-43.  Is the Cibacron F Name for this Blue F-GFN?

I can't tell from my books or anything I can find on the internet.  I think you'll have to call your supplier next week.

Is it a pure color?  did you test it? blowing a bit across a damp white cloth?

Anne Vincent

I'll test it when I am back home.  I ordered it from Pro Chemical and Dye, but the MSDS they have posted on their web site only has their name and number.

As do most of their mixed colors.

I bought the same dye and just did the test. I see spots of fuchsia, navy and maybe turquoise in it. Where can we get the pure royal blue? Linda

Unless you can tell from the MSDS you have to call them up and ask which blues are pure.  I think the navy is ciba's navy FG and National Blue is Ciba's Blue FR.  I suspect the turquoise is a pure color too because Linda saw it in her mix but can't get a Ciba indication.

For these kind of reasons you need a supplier you can count on/talk to.

It looks like the "sun yellow" (which I have for my non-gold yellow) is also not pure.  I haven't yet done the test, but the name in the MSDS is a Pro Chemical name/number, so guessing.  What yellow is everyone else using?

Linda

Did you test it and see various colors?  Sun yellow would be a very hard color to mix and Ciba has a Sun yellow and a Gold.  I saw the MSDS sheet on it and the turquoise with just PRoChem's name, but I suspect they are the pure colors I know.

Will some one please call them on Tuesday and post the results here?

Only because they only give the Pro Chemical name for the dye in the MSDS.  I saw the turquoise as you said too, treated the same way.  Makes sense that it would be difficult to do as a mixed color (and for no known reason).   I will try to do a test of the yellow in the next couple of days, just to check.  I don't have the turquoise (yet).

If you have some could you please test it for being a mixed or pure color and report back to us, please.

I will call Pro Chemical & Dye in the morning, but I've been sleuthing on line.  I think the blue with the designation Blue F-GFN may be the Brilliant Blue (or Intense Blue) they have discontinued.  I did find Cibacron "Brilliant Blue FNG" on Classic Dyestuffs web site.  I will call them, too, but it looks like they are a commercial supplier.

My Royal Blue F-43 (Pro Chemical's name and number) has fuchsia in it for sure.

Anne Vincent

I spoke with the technical department at Pro Chemical & Dye just now.  They discontinued the Cibacron F Brilliant Blue F-GFN about two years ago as they became dissatisfied with the quality of the product they were receiving from their supplier.  The Royal Blue F-43 is a mixture.  The Turquoise F-40 is a pure color.

I also spoke with the technical department at Classic Dyestuffs.  They have 162 lbs. of the original Cibacron F Brilliant Blue, but do not know the date of manufacture.  They will never be able to obtain any more of it.  Their minimum purchase is 1 lb.  They are sending me a sample of it and their Permabrill product which might be used as a substitute (?).  They are calling me back with a price.  I'll let you know what I find out.

Karren K. Brito

It is what I have always used with Cibacron F.  I knew it was discontinued.  I think I have 2 lbs on hand, but even with the turquoise the blue range in Cibacron F will be a challenge.

I suspect that the Br. Blue was taken out of production for environmental reasons.

So you all will be working with National Blue (Blue R), Navy and Turquoise for the blues.  I 'll change the speadsheet for your results.

which one is the turquoise?

Cibacron F dyes 2 oz. each;

Sun Yellow

Gold

Scarlet

Fuchsia

National Blue

Royal Blue

Navy

Karren K. Brito

Royal Blue is , we now know a mixed color, but National Blue and Navy are pure colors.  Two blues should be enough but if you want to add F40 Turquoise you might be able to extend the range a bit, I suspect that it is higher chroma than the National Blue.  I'm still using the older brilliant Blue, sorry if I lead you astray.

Karren, I see on the google docs, there is a RED. It wasn't on the supply list was it? Please advise what to buy and I'll order it and the Turquoise.

Or is the red, Fuchsia?

I took the list you told us to buy and pasted it in my last comment. If anything else changes, let me know : )

Karren K. Brito

Scarlet and Fuchsia (or however you spell this very strange word, should be fewshia no?).  Red F-B is the official name of Fuchsia.

Karren, is the Blue F-41 the correct blue for Blue F-R? Are we going to use Royal Blue?

Thanks.

Mary

We need to limit ourselves to pure dyes  to have something meaningful.  Their Royal Blue is a mixed color.  You may use it to dye anything royal blue .

Their National Blue is Blue F-R.

It can drive you crazy figureing which dye is which!
