I almost had a meltdown. After following Cathie's frustrated email, i thought I'd use wax paper.

Trying to measure my dye, I placed a piece of wax paper on my scale and tared it. Then i added my dye. Back and forth, back into the jar, trying to get just the right amount. Finally got my 1g number, yeah, picked up the wax paper folded to stream into flash, and dropped the @#$%#$ thing.Thank goodness the dye was in big pellets -

So had to figure out how to measure dry dye and successfully get into the flask. So i did what you all problably already knew what to do. I took a dry measure cup, tared it on my scalel, added the dye, then made a paper cone and put that in my flask, THEN i poured the dye down the neck of the flask without spilling. This is really silly, but I wish I had know how to do this prior to starting.

Mary-you're doing well! I finally used a wax paper cone and still spilled the dye powder!

i'm going to buy a funnel tomorrow -my dye kept getting caught in the sleeves of the cup!

i'm only going to have 2 skeins for class - i did everything i could to be ready - 2's better than 1 and lots better than none!

Mary,

I think that Japan has an exclusive on the term "melt down" right now.

It's amazing what we learn by doing, n'est pas?  You are doing well, Mary.  It should get easier as you continue to do the work.

It's funny - i teach many beginning weavers who are stiff with fear - i recognize it and tell them to relax, they'll get it more quickly if they let it go... i need to apply this to my own experience here!
