materials : 1 lb of worsted weight cotton (light color) and 1 lb of sport weight (dark color) The pattern (shadow weave) becomes log cabin in this double weave blanket. You use two shuttles (one dark and one light) . Wind the warp with the two colors two at a time for a total number of warp threads of 288 (2 threads per dent in a #8 dents per inch reed) I did this on my baby wolf and used only about 18 inches of weaving width because the cloth was woven as double cloth on the loom . The cloth when it is unfolded and finished is about 30 " x 30". It is woven plain weave and is pretty easy once you establish the weaving color sequence. The weft picks alternated colors every other pick. Because you are weaving both a top and bottom layer in double weave (going around the fold), you do 2 picks of one color before changing to the other color. The threadling starts with the 2 shuttles attached at the open side. Begin by treadling # 2 and then #4 (both color 1) and after changing color treadle #1 and then# 3 (both color 2) weaving around the fold with each treadle change. Now the threads are attached to the bottom selvedge. To return to the starting position at the uppermost left selvedge:treadle #4 and 2 (both color 1) and #3 and then #1 (both color 2). Now, the only other thing to remember is that after 32 weft picks (16 of each color)are visible , you need to exchange color 1 for color 2 in your treadling sequence to make the log cabin pattern. This means you begin the next row with the same color you just laid down and begin treadling the same pattern with color changes every two picks. . It looks more complicated than it really is. You need four shafts because the top layer needs two and the bottom layer needs two for plain weave. Check periodically and make that you are not weaving the two layers together at the open selvedges. I used a nylon fishing line floating selvedge at the fold to prevent the threads from packing in too closing at the fold.

[purchased a pattern from Halcyon, but the weaving width had to be converted to double weave, since my baby wolf was not wide enough, I used PixieLoom software to do the conversion.
