I just inherited an older 4 harness 4 treadle loom. When I want to do a plain weave do I go through each treadle, 1-2-3-4 and then start again or do I use 2 together, 1+3, 2+4?  Never used this type of loom, a newbie here can you tell?  I have learned on a 6 treadle loom with heddles 1+3 and 2+4 tied up together.  This is where I have no idea.  Thank you!

Yes, use two feet to depress the treadles and raise the shafts you want up.

Will I be able to do overshot on this loom?

Do you know of a site or book that would explain different types of weave pattern for this type of loom?

By using both feet you can weave every possible pattern that requires max 4 shafts.  (Sometimes you may have to depress 3 of 4 treadles, but as two of them will always be adjacent, it should be no problem)

I suggest you get a good beginner book, and start from there.

Have fun!

As Kerstin says, you can weave any four shaft draft.  To make it easier you might like to use a liftplan which will tell you which treadles to step on.  If you have an iPad, there is the iweaveit app which will convert a treadling draft into liftplan. If you get the treadle tracker feature it will also help keep track of where you are in the sequence.
