Starting another tartan weave. A friend asked for some 'least expensive' Clan Ross tartan for 3 very young grandsons to have their mother sew them together each a kilt. These first three photos are some of the drudge work that I know most all of us do but no one really seems to post pictures of it. I have 4 more spools to transfer to the warp beam after supper and tomorrow looks like I will be working on heddle threading and reed sleying - a little over 800 ends.
May10, finally got some weave going and have managed to get about 2 yards completed.
May 17, Finished. This has been an aggravation and after talking with a few longtime and one master weaver this past weekend I now know not to use all bamboo on a project like this. The yarn is slippery and does not even hold a weave lock until you change sheds. Honestly I did not warp it on the loom as well as I should have. I had several crossed and twisted yarns in different sections on the warp beam - so as we all know we learn from our mistakes.
