I like it!  It is fun to try different yarns on one sample warp. The last sample in the top row looks great!!!!

Thanks Dawn!

Yes, it is fun to cram in lots of ideas on a sample warp.... although this one looks a bit like the Pick'n'Mix section at Woolies!!

I gave five stars not only for the fact that your experiment was interesting, but because you documented it so well that I could learn from it too! Good job both ways. I wish everyone would document their project so clearly and thoroughly!

Thanks Neshobe.

Keeping good records can be a bit of a chore at the time, but I hope that they'll prove their worth in the long run.

Looking at the fourth picture in the first row reminds me of a skirt.   I'm wondering if you could weave, for example, material for a skirt in such a way that you could almost just stitch the side seams (with a zipper) and get a skirt that naturally came in at the waist.

Hi Sally

I'm sure that such a design would be possible...(after some experimenting with shrinkage ratios!)

Notes

Photo 1- Cones of the four yarns I'm using in this project. Black and red Supersheen Acrylic, and black and red 2/28 wool.

Photos 2 and 3 - These show the warping process.

Photos 4 - 9  Half the first sample worked! The bottom half with the acrylic weft was disappointing, but the top half with the wool weft worked well. The black "felting" yarn shrank the best (as you'd expect!), the red merino was OK where it crossed the black wool, but areas of weave with a red merino warp and weft were reluctant to shrink so much.

I've just uploaded some more photos of samples from this warp. I've tried to include a before felting pic, and then the felted version.
