I'm planning heirloom pillowcases - doubleweave so there aren't any seams on the sides.  Probably 3/1 twill.

I'm considering 40/2 warp and weft or 20/1 warp and weft.

Would the singles be harder to manage?  I live in Oregon so humidity is pretty much guarenteed.

Any thoughts?  40/2 warp and 20/1 weft?  Would be unbalanced but might look okay.

Thanks.  Pat Z.

But I  would get a slender shuttle that holds a 5 or 6 inch quill so that it will hold more.  And hold a damp cloth in your hand and let the linen run over the cloth as you wind the quill.  Swedish weavers love to weave linen and they do not use plastic bobbins.

I weave a lot with linen singles and can atest that as a warp they can be tricky.  Your idea of a 40/2 warp and a 20/1 weft sounds like a good idea.  I have a few small looms, one's a table loom, that I do tests on so that when I get to the bigger projects I've done the research.  I also take lots of pics and make notes for the next time.
