Hi!! I have a Macomber B4E and a Glimakra warping mill. While I use a warping paddle and a cone spool holder, I am having unholy heck pulling the strands evenly from the cones (six) in order to prepare my warp. Holding the warping paddle in my right hand, every half turn of the mill, I have to tug and pull to get enough slack...the tencel is just not coming off smoothly from the cones. I have used cotton and wool, too. Same problem. I even have an A-frame enameled metal laundry sorter over the cones, so the strands are being pulled directly up and not at an angle. My level of frustration with this is almost through the roof. Anyone have any tips, please? Thank you! Christina

If the thread is being pulled directly up, is there a problem with the cones?  Look very closely.  The thread should come off very easily.

The cones should not be touching each other.

Sometimes the thread goes on the bottom of the cone. Sitting the cone on the floor puts theses threades between the cone and floor. You may have to put something under the cone to get the bottom off the floor. A other trick is to have an overhead rack so the yarn come up from the floor to the overhead and you pull down on the thread.

I have not done this, but a weaver once said that with her slippery warp thread, she had to put the cone in a plastic bag to prevent a slack thread from falling to the bottom of the cone. It might be worth a try. Joanne

If you are having this problem with all of your cones (you mention cotton and wool), it sounds like it's more to do with your set up than the cones. I don't know what an A-frame laundry sorter looks like; perhaps if you added a picture of your warping set up we could see what the problem is. I use cone holders with eyelets over each cone, and I rarely have any tension problems.

I ended up getting a new cone holder and it made ALL the difference. This is how my set up looks now. http://feistyknitter.blogspot.com/2017/05/fully-dressed-and-ready-to-dance.html Many THANKS for your replies!
