Hi Michael and group,

I recently purchased a 40" 8 harness Mac at a studio sale.  It was used lovingly for years by its owner, who passed away.  The loom has been sitting for many years in storage.

I was able to clean the harnesses of all the rust by light sanding.  Questions here:

1. I need some advice as to how to clean the lams.  I have been oiling them and working them and they seem to be

usable but they are rusty.  Can you guys give me any advice as to how best to clean them?  Is it advisable to take the lams apart at the bottom?

2.Also it seems the wires that run from the upper levers to the lower lams are bending.  One of them, harness 8, keeps popping out of the upper hole.

3.  Then my next question is I don't know if parts are missing.  I don't see anything to attach the harnesses to the lams at the bottom.  There's an metal arm that seems to lay

across the lams, not sure what that's for.

Any help to get me going is appreciated!

1. You can try derusting them in place using sandpaper and then painting them with a rust converter, this comes in both a spay and a brush type. Just cover everything up. Or you can remove the lamms and clean them.

2. You can replace this wire or bent the hook. It may be that jack and lamm just needs cleaning and is causing the problem.

3. There is nothing that attached to the bottom of the lamms. This part I think is the "Lamm depresser" used to push down the lamms so you can add the hooks. Picture below.

4. Clean all the grooves in the treadles, the lamm grooves, the jacks. spray all the moving parts with a dry lubacation.

How is the wood finish?

Enjoy your loom it will serve you well for years.
